5 Things That Make Working From Home Feel Better

Working from home has plenty of perks, but I’ve learned that enjoying it has less to do with having the perfect office and more to do with the little rhythms around how I work.

These are five simple things that make my days feel calmer, more focused, and a whole lot better.

BETTER RHYTHMS · LESS DISTRACTION · A WORKDAY THAT FEELS GOOD

02 —

Make your space feel good.

It doesn’t need to look like a magazine. Good light, a comfortable chair, and a workspace I actually want to sit down at make a surprisingly big difference.

03 —

Step away for lunch.

I’m much better in the afternoon when lunch happens somewhere other than directly in front of my laptop.

04 —

Sometimes the best thing
for your work is to leave it.

A walk around the block, coffee somewhere else, or even moving to another room can be enough to reset my brain when I’ve been staring at the same thing too long.

05 —

Know when
you’re done.

This might be the one I’m still working on most. When home and work happen in the same place, it’s easy to never completely leave either one. Closing the laptop, clearing the desk, and deciding that the day is finished helps create a little separation.

CLOSE THE LAPTOP · CLEAR THE DESK · TOMORROW IS ANOTHER DAY

A LITTLE REMINDER

You don’t have to make
every day productive.

Some days flow. Some don’t. I’m learning that a good workday isn’t necessarily the one where everything gets finished—it’s the one that leaves enough of me for the rest of my life, too.
